274 exhibitors from 18 countries and around 5,200 trade visitors from 28 countries made it-sa 2021 from October 12th to 14th a meeting place for IT security experts and decision-makers. For comparison: in 2019 there were still 753 exhibitors from 25 countries and 15,632 international trade visitors. At the moment, the major American manufacturers in particular stayed away from the fair and some distributors canceled at short notice.
Nevertheless, the response from many exhibitors was largely positive. Here are a few voices: “It is much emptier and the discussions are distant,” commented Timo Weberskirch, EMEA Sales Engineering Team Lead Unified Endpoint Management at Quest Software. “It is important to have the confidence to take cover again. Our panel discussion was full, ”said Karl Altmann, CEO of uniscon. Christian Geilen, Manager Channels Central Europe at Rubric, was impressed: “People are looking for conversations. Next year we will book our own booth again. ”Jakob Oberascher, Datasecurity Architect, Digital Guardian, was very positive:“ It was really good and we also received new interested parties. Our expectations were exceeded. The right people were there. “
As expected, the trade fair organizer also sees everyone as positive: “it-sa 2021 was a complete success: As expected in the current situation, smaller than the last event, but an extremely effective marketing tool for the participating companies”, Frank Venjakob, Director sums up it-sa, the first event after the Corona-related suspension last year. “The exhibitors at it-sa 2021 are enthusiastic about the high quality of the contacts and the intensive technical discussions on specific projects. We are very happy about this positive feedback from numerous personal conversations, ”Venjakob continues. The participation of high-ranking representatives from politics and associations underlines the role of it-sa as a central forum for dialogue on cybersecurity. It-sa Expo & Congress sends a clear signal to IT security providers, experts and decision-makers: Welcome back to it-sa, the “Home of IT Security”!
IT security is more important than ever, the participants at the trade fair agreed on this with a view to the increase in cyber attacks. It is true that awareness of IT security is increasing, as is spending in Germany, as the digital association Bitkom reported at it-sa. However, it is important to create structures that promote further growth in the IT security market. Luigi Rebuffi, Secretary General of the Europan Cyber Security Organization, called for the cybersecurity sector to be strengthened in the European economic area. In an international comparison, the market for IT security in Europe suffers from a funding gap of more than 4 billion euros annually. In Halls 7 and 7A as well as in the Congress @ it-sa congress program in the modern NürnbergConvention Center Ost, the participants exchanged ideas on these and other current topics. One of the highlights of the congress program was the annual meeting of the IT security officers of the federal states and municipalities.
The lecture program of the four forums at it-sa 2021 recorded over 130 contributions on different topics. They were real crowd pullers again this year. In addition to three German-language forums, the English-language International Forum also offered additional specialist knowledge for those who could not be there themselves: parallel to it-sa in Nuremberg, the program was broadcast on the it-sa 365 online platform. Even those who could not be on site at it-sa had the opportunity to follow the English-language contributions and trade fair highlights such as the special keynote or the presentation of the UP @ it-sa Award online. The forum program will be posted on the it-sa 365 platform after it-sa and will therefore also be available online after the trade fair.
With the special area Startups @ it-sa, a panel discussion and the presentation of the UP @ it-sa Award, it-sa promoted young companies in 2021. The winner of the coveted startup award for applicants from the DACH region is the company XignSys from Gelsenkirchen. The XignSys team receives the award for the development of an innovative authentication solution that is particularly user-friendly.
The keynote at it-sa 2021 was held by Hans-Christian (“Chris”) Boos. The artificial intelligence expert spoke about the importance of technology for current and future security applications. He appealed to his audience to be aware of their responsibility in the development of AI-based security tools – people are still crucial here.
The next edition of it-sa will take place from October 25th to 27th, 2022 in the Nuremberg Exhibition Center.
