The security tool is aimed at companies with up to 300 employees. Microsoft positions it as an affordable solution for endpoint security. The company is responding to the increase in ransomware attacks, among other things.

Microsoft has introduced a new security tool for companies. According to Jon Maunder, product manager for Microsoft 365, Microsoft Defender for Business was “specifically designed to provide companies with up to 300 employees with an easy-to-use and affordable solution for endpoint security”. A first preview should be available shortly.

In the future, customers will be able to buy the platform directly from Microsoft as a stand-alone offer. The cost is said to be $ 3 per user per month. Maunder pointed out that the platform was also developed due to a 300 percent increase in ransomware attacks over the past year. According to Microsoft, more than 50 percent of attacks also reach small businesses.

“Defender for Business extends the security of traditional virus protection to include next generation protection, endpoint detection and response, threat and vulnerability management and much more. It offers simplified configuration and management with intelligent, automated investigations and remedial actions. Defender for Business helps you protect yourself from cybersecurity threats like malware and ransomware on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android-Protect devices, ”says Maunder.

The tool will work regardless of whether email and productivity tools are running on-premise, in Microsoft 365, or in third-party solutions, the manager added. It will be included as part of Microsoft 365 Business Premium accounts and can also be integrated with Microsoft 365 Lighthouse.
